HELEN CLARK
Animal Artist
The Gallery at Caudwell's Mill is a haven for Peak District Lovers. Nestled between old farm buildings, a flour mill courtyard and the stunning scenery surrounding the River Wye, it has a diverse range of over 200 signed prints, handmade gifts and greetings cards - all designed and made by Helen, Sam and Suzanne on the premises.
Watch Helen at work in the studio most days or spot her in the distance with her easel- she doesn't have to go far for inspiration. Most of her subjects, whether it be the rugged landscape or it's furry and feathered inhabitants, have been painted from life within a ten mile radius of The Gallery at Caudwell's Mill.
A local lass, Helen was brought up in the Dales and continues to live in her beloved Derbyshire. Her love of wildlife was nurtured from an early age, often hiding earthworms and butterflies in her bedroom as a child. Her fascination for the Natural World often disrupted her school work as the various creepy crawlies she hid in a matchbox were let out to play during lessons. A teacher once remarked " If Helen paid less attention to her animal managerie and paid more attention to her maths, she could go a long way." Helen still can't add up without a calculator but she feels she has chosen the right path after all.
Visit the Gallery which is open daily, 10 -5pm for an unusual or unique gift. An extensive range of handmade cards, fridge magnets, coasters, keyrings, stationery and stickers are a fine accompanyment to Helen's stunning prints and paintings- a guaranteed affordable gift to suit all pockets.
Why not comission a pet portrait from your favourite photograph? Helen is a leading feline artist and her cat paintings hang in collection on both sides of the Atlantic. Her dog and horse portraiture have also gained her an enviable reputation as one of the county's leading animal portraitists.
